Happy New Year Y'all

With the new year rapidly approaching my lair deep in the heart of North Carolina,
I want to share with you some of the things the new year will bring at NAFOM

I have been amassing some guns to review, as anyone who has read this blog before knows, I like strange stuff.
My newest acquisition has been a Tanaka Colt Combat Python, 3" in Midnight gold.
Was shooting for a modern PI style with this pic, Kind of a updated "Last Boy Scout" look

I also have a dozen or so revolvers to add to the review mix, in addition to a Digicon straight, a Calico 1000, AGM Sten and some other oddities I have picked up here and there.

SHOT show is coming fast, 16 days and counting until the trek to Las Vegas begins again.
I will try and update you from the show, so keep a close eye on this site on January 18th thru the 23ed.

My goal this year is to do one review every two weeks,
I never make my goals but some doctor somewhere
( court appointed, more than likely)
told me it was good to have goals.

Here are a few guns I will not be reviewing

This is the new desert eagle in 50 cal BMG, grip is a little slim for my taste.

A Practical AK, but I am not a big AK fan

Please join me in the new year, and tell all your friends to come on by,
we should have a laugh or two and maybe you will pick up some info you didn't know about.

And remember, always have a backup plan,

I hope the new year is the best one so far for you, may you never run out of battery power in a skirmish,
may your GBB's always stay lubed
and may all your bb's fly true.
As I just turned another year older, this is what I have to look forward to this year

I have to add a addendum to this post.
After reading a lot of the blogs I follow tonight, I have found that most of them have HUGE plans for 2011.
Writing books, opening stores, having movies made about their blog ,
everyone has better goals than I set for myself.
So here are my new goals.
I have been talking with my dog Chance ( Dollie, the female puppy wants nothing to do with this) and we are going to
TAKE OVER THE WORLD.
I got the idea when Geoff, the metal mohawk haired robot on the Craig Ferguson show, started sending me coded signals thru my new HD TV.

I will release more info on the plan later, as I will need more henchmen for my plans of
WORLD DOMINATION.
(That's better than any old movie, book or store any day)

Till tomorrow,
Stay Thirsty My Friends.

Your After Christmas Laughs are here!

Hope yall had a food filled, Wrapping paper ripping day.

Hope Santy Claus brought you everything that you had on your list, and a surprise or two also.

From me, all you get is a belly laugh out of theses gems I found on the Youtube!

NOT SAFE FOR WORK DUE TO LANGUAGE

If you see anyone you know that resembles these vids,  best to keep it to yourself.
Most people are stressed at this time of year and you don't want to cause an "incident"

Notice there is no "sparkling" on this Vampire
Back in my day, they ripped your throat out, not bored you to death with angst.

I guess the big red guy won the poker game, or he is just taking a stroll in downtown Greensboro!

One day an old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old German Shepherd thinks, 'Oh, oh! I'm in deep doo-doo now!' Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly, 'Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?'

Hearing this, the young panther halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. 'Whew!' says the panther, 'That was close! That old German Shepherd nearly had me!'

Meanwhile, a squirrel who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he goes.
The squirrel soon catches up with the panther, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the panther.

The young panther is furious at being made a fool of and says, 'Here, squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!

Now, the old German Shepherd sees the panther coming with the squirrel on his back and thinks, 'What am I going to do now?', but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old German Shepherd says...
'Where's that squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another panther!

Moral of this story...

Don't mess with the old dogs... Age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery!
BS and brilliance only come with age and experience.

Everyone needs some calmness this Holiday season

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished."

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates, and a half bottle of scotch.

You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

Why I only use ESS Goggles.

The staff, training facilitators, marketing dept, interns and owners of NAFOM
only use ESS goggles

And here is why.

Last January, before the epic trip to Las Vegas for my 24th SHOT show began, we did a little testing in Texas.
Using a 350 fps Strafer

Now this little beasty puts out 175 .25G 6mm airsoft bb's per second
(Yes, everyone should own one, get yours at www.xcalibertactical.com)

So, we placed a set of the new (at that time) ESS  Profile Airsoft w/ Cortex Clip
on to a poor, defenseless, Styrofoam head  that we just happened to have laying around
(don't ask)

Here are some pictures after unloading 400 rds into the Goggles

 Before, nice clean goggles

After, 400 rds, I would say at least 200 hit the goggles, goggles were about 15 ft from the muzzle.

ABSOLUTELY  NO PENETRATION OF THE GOGGLES
Nothing got thru, not one, this was impressive.

 Lots of marks,
I would replace the lens before using them again,
but not one bb made it through.

Mr Foam Head gave his life for this test
I, for one would like to thank him for his sacrifice.

I think now you can see why I only use ESS,
I don't have anyone to pay my medical bills but me, if I use inferior goggles and I get hurt.

You can't replace a lost eye, when people chose to use untested or cheap goggles they are showing a deep disrespect for the other players on the field along with putting themselves at risk.

Go to the ESS website and check them out for yourself.
This was not a paid review, the goggles were given to me by ESS for testing
and I was told to publish what ever I found out about them.
Good or bad.
All I found was good and I looked for something bad!
I will only use ESS for all my eyewear needs.
They are the only big name company that make specific goggles for the airsoft market.
They tested them and they did right by us airsofters.
They are also great guys, and that's just icing on the cake and boy, do I love cake

Come to think of it, Mr Foam head looks like icing, were did I put that thing?

Bottom line, buy ESS Goggles if you care about being able to see after a head shot.
I have a video,  I will get it cut and added soon,
hey, it only took me 11 months to get this posted,
so I am doing good.
Many thanks to Sam at X Caliber Tactical for the Strafer, bb's and back yard
and for putting up with an old man.

As a side note, last year I was wearing a set of the ESS advancers while riding my front yard mower
(yes I have one for the front and one for the back, doesn't everyone?)

I hit a huge rock
( yes, I had on safety eye wear, but was listening to dean martin on my ipod thingy so I was distracted.)
The rock chip ricocheted off the lawn edging and hit the right lens of my Advancers,
Cracked the lens, but had I been using a cheaper pair of glasses, or none at all, I would be  in a good position for using a pirate costume for Halloween each year from then on.
Like seat belts, you never know when they will save you.

I don't always skirmish, but when I do, I only wear ESS
Till tomorrow

And now, GGBR M4/M16's are legal again, Ta Da, just like magic.

Time-line

Nov 5 2010   A finding letter appears that you have seen in my last post

Nov 12 2010   Finding letter disappears from the BATFE website.

Nov 23    A new FAQ appears on BATFE's website

Q: Does the ATF regulate the sale and possession of air guns? Is an air gun classified as a “firearm” under Federal law?
The term “firearm” is defined in the Gun Control Act of 1968, 18 U.S.C. Section 921(a)(3), to include (A) any weapon (including a starter gun), which will, or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon…. Based on Section 921(a)(3), air guns, because they use compressed air and not an explosive to expel a projectile, do not constitute firearms under Federal law unless they are manufactured with the frames or receivers of an actual firearm. Accordingly, the domestic sale and possession of air guns is normally unregulated under the Federal firearms laws enforced by ATF.
We caution that ATF is not charged with enforcement or oversight of the firearms laws of States or localities. To determine possible restrictions on air guns where you reside, we recommend that you contact the office of your state Attorney General, the State Police, or other State/local law enforcement authorities for further guidance.
Now, I am not a lawyer, but a very hard working one had this to say about it,
( plain English, not legalese, version)

"In other words unless you build an airsoft on a firearm receiver the airsoft guns are ok as imported.  If you actually build your airsoft into a functioning firearm you have a whole different but individual problem."

Although I made repeated attempts, ATF has not contacted me back.

Is this the end of story for Airsoft and the BATFE
I would be a Pollyanna to say yes.
Just like the fights for real steel firearms in the US, it is a daily ongoing fight.

I will be joining the ASTM next week as this is one of the only ways that consumers and users of items in the USA can have a voice.

I want to thank the legal staff at the NRA for all their help
and being interested enough in our "toys" to care.

I also want to thanks Thumpy's house of airsoft, popular Airsoft and Arines for getting the word out.

To recap, from Nov 5th to Nov 12th GBBR m16's were firearms. From Nov 12th till the 22ed they might have been. Now on Nov 22ed they are not, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

I hope now I can just do some reviews and tell jokes, I like that much better

It's official, GBB M-4s are firearms per BATFE as of Nov 5th

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:UoszsK0zp2AJ:www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/rulings/atf-rulings/atf-ruling-2010-4.html+Air+gun+ruling+ATF&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a

I saw this when it popped up  on Nov 5th,
I wanted to wait till I had some word from ATF themselves as to the disposition of the replicas.
I had to write them a real letter, that's right, paper and all, to get an answer.
So far, no reply.
I know that this makes the GBB M-16/M-4 a "unregistered" firearms
( in the respect that the serial number was not recorded with ATF at time of manufacturing).
If I do not get an answer before Jan I will make it a point to talk with them 1st thing at SHOT.

I have calls out to the NRA, (now, for the 1st time airsoft is kicked into their court )
and BATFE. being a holiday week, I doubt anything will come back, but I will keep you updated.
update
now this has been found.
http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/why-did-atf-issue-and-then-rescind-a-ruling-declaring-air-guns-firearms

I am trying to track if it is correct by phone as I type.
but a phone call and a finding letter are two different animals.
I will keep you updated

More Licensing issues with Airsoft, Lawsuits, or worse, to come?

Madbull just released this out to the Airsoft Community
Nov 20th 2010
( Bold is my addition)

Dear Airsoft players and manufacturers,
We are proud to announce that Madbull Airsoft have been granted official licensing from Troy Industries, PRI (Precision Reflex Inc.), Surefire Suppressors, Lancer Systems, Reset Inc. (U.S. Army future soldier systems), KelTec, and Viking Tactics (U.S. Retired Delta Force). Many more are currently in the works too!
Madbull Airsoft will also begin to work with more than 20 US Firearm companies for “Operation Copycat” an international operation to combat all unauthorized copies from Asia. This large scale operation will be run by several law firms, Customs Agencies, and local law enforcement.
Most unauthorized copies are 1:1 scale which can be easily applied to a real firearm. This poses a problem because whereas they are 100% visual copies they are not constructed by the same materials and do not possess the same build quality. This is a huge risk to any end user since it’s highly probable that the copy will malfunction and cause serious damage to both the weapon and user. Many of these firearm companies receive damaged returns which turn out to be an unauthorized copy that has failed but bare all the correct trademarks but were manufactured in Asia. Note that all these copies were imported illegally and that any product baring unauthorized trademarks or trade dress is against the law.
But it’s not all bad news; some good news is that a few Asian manufacturers have given us their full cooperation with our efforts. A notable mention would be, Tokyo Marui, a highly reputable company.
We at Madbull highly encourage other airsoft manufacturers and players to support legal, authorized, and officially licensed products. This is a win-win for all; licensors (who respectively pay to use trademarks), real steel manufacturers (for all their hard work and countless hours developing these products), and players who get to enjoy 1:1 scaled airsoft only authorized replicas. All the royalties paid is motivation for real firearm companies to continue to create more great and exciting products. This benefits both the real gun industry along with the airsoft industry and ultimately you the airsoft player.
Any questions or inquiries, feel free to contact our license department: info@isgk.org
Sincerely,
Madbull Airsoft

Sounds to me like if you are waiting for a shipment from Asia of some "Grey Markets" parts, the chance of them getting here has just gone way down.
I need to put some more thought into this subject before I jump in with a rant.
While I do totally agree with Licensing, and have even worked with people in that area for a company,
(not airsoft), I can also see the other side of this issue.

I had a very prophetic conversation with a long time airsoft journalist at the 2010 SHOT show.
My stance was that all of us in the industry had to become more professional and convey a better image.
I had met many airsofters that week that projected the "skateboarder" persona
and I thought it was detrimental if we ever wanted to be "taken seriously"
( In my defense, I am old and started this fight in 1986,
long before 99% of the people in airsoft now were born).
His stance was that we had to keep it more underground, that if more of the "suits" found out about us, it would ruin airsoft.
Looking back today, I think he was right.

Airsoft is growing up, the days of enthusiasts opening companies to sell to like minded players are ending.
MBA are running airsoft companies now,
with P&L statements and some with even shareholders to answer to.

I am going to go out on a limb here and predict that five years from today
( if the world is here after Dec 23 2012, that is)

Airsoft as we know it will not be airsoft as we know it now.
Systemic change comes to every industry, it has to if it is to survive.

Are we finally seeing airsoft grow up?
Or did Madbull just jump the shark.

Till Tomorrow,
Stay Thirsty my friends.

Cyergun to release a FN Herstal’s FNP9-17

I like to see new guns hit the market, found this tidbit on a design blog
Don't know if it will be spring or gas, but hey, it's not a 1911
Pic of real steel FN, not the airsoft one

Looks like cybergun is jumping all over that new agreement with FN

I am looking forward to the "new" Red Dawn Movie

Although I have my doubts that it can be anywhere
as great as the 1st one

Now even the Chinese want me, it is so nice to be wanted!

I have a review coming on the "Jed" 45 single action army by Marushin.
Stay tuned.

This, I like

Just a quick insert of this YouTube vid.
I love obscure and odd guns, the stranger the better for my taste.
That someone would take the time to mod a airsoft gun into a bizarre pistol like this is just great,
being as there were only 100 ever made in real steel.
My hat is off to this craftsman, kudos sir.

This was a Youtube Vid on the "Mars Automatic pistol" airsoft pistol,
Sadly, Youtube has decided to not allow the share.

Wait, I found it again!

Update on H& Kocks lawsuits against Airsoft

I told you I would try and keep you up to date on the on going lawsuits by H & Kock
This is one that I have found an Update on, HK vs Hobbytron
Looks like Hobbytron did lose $51,000 or so,
but the judgment was set aside do to faulty service of summons.

On the other lawsuits, this is the latest info I could find

Looks like they are still going forward, as far as I can tell.
This is an update to this old post of mine.
As I said in the last post, I hate that this is going on,
I understand why they are doing it, but still hate it is happening.
Why can't we all just get along!!!!!!!!

Beat down Boogie Redux

Just a brief update on my time spent on set last weekend with the crew
filming part 3/4 of their smash youtube hit.

I got to show off some new lighting and a gun or two,
but the best part was the chance to be an extra in the next episode!
Wish they had made me wear a balaclava, but at least I look ugly enough to be a SWAT cop!
And yes my finger is on the trigger, that is because I was shooting someone!

I was running a Ares FNC for the 1st part of the day,
had to switch to my X Caliber Tactical built custom Patriot for the afternoon
as I am still sporting a few broken ribs from my encounter with a bridge a few weeks back.

Yes, that is a C mag, come on, it's a movie

Wish you could see a reflection of "Ghost" in my heads up
I did have him "dead to rights"

I had a hell of a great time, I have never worked with a film crew that were anywhere near as friendly
or as accommodating as these guys were to their bit players.
Super crew and everyone there was professional and nice.

This is coming from a cranky old guy that usually bitches about everything,
so for me this is high praise.

They have some editing and effects work to do in post ,
Ep 3 should be out in a month or so,
please check it out.

Till tomorrow,
Stay Thirsty my Friends

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Sorry Guys,,,,,

When I was trying to leave Columbus OH on Thursday morning, some one
(they drove off)
hit me from behind
and drove me into a bridge abutment at 60 MPH.
I got some what busted up, but my poor baby F-150 became a F-75 1/2 real quick.
As I fractured  my right wrist from the airbag deploying, I have to type left handed.
That being said, I wont be posting much for a little while,
I did find some cool stuff that I will be testing and visited the "Airsoft Smith"
which was a great store.
Reviews in a little while.
Until then,
Stay Thirsty my Friends.

Just got a new Enchanter mobile
And here she is

Even has a old man step on the tailgate!
